If Iran decided it was time to create the global chaos and bloodshed that Islamic fundamentalists believe are necessary conditions to usher in their Mahdi, or Messiah, they could accomplish it this very day, simply by demanding payment for oil in gold.  The little boy would then be pointing to the global phony paper currency emperor and shouting:
"But the Emperor has nothing at all on!" Said a little child.  "Listen to the voice of innocence!" exclaimed the father; and what the child had said was whispered from one to another.  "But he has nothing on!" at last cried all the people.  The Emperor was vexed, for he knew that the people were right; but he thought, "The procession must go on now!"  And the lords of the bed-chamber took greater pains than ever to appear holding up a train, although, in reality, there was no train to hold. - Hans Christian Anderson
This would cause an immediate collapse in banking, currencies, and economies worldwide.  The bloodshed would follow after a short spell of collective stunned global silence, and lines at closed banks.  Every city in the world could resemble Watts in 1965, or Detroit in 1967, overnight.
Rev 18:9  And the kings of the earth, who have committed fornication and lived deliciously with her, shall bewail her, and lament for her, when they shall see the smoke of her burning, 10 Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgment come.  11 And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no man buyeth their merchandise any more:

And, once again, the world would learn from history, that we don't learn from history.  Never in the history of the world has an unsound currency survived.  Some last longer than others.  The unconstitutional faux dough we use in the U.S. today has been with us for less than a century.
A second scenario might begin with coalition forces withdrawing from Iraq.  The Shiite majority in Iraq, after having waited so patiently for our exit, take over the police and army.  Any objecting Iraqi Sunnis are removed.  Iraq and Iran then consolidate and mobilize militarily, and then seize control of Kuwait.
Kuwait goes down without a peep from Western nations, who are no more willing to go back into the area than they were to go back into Vietnam.  The Saudi Wahabis can then either sit silently or go to war, with either case having the same net effect for the West.  The common interest of all of these Islamic fundamentalists is global chaos that they believe is required to usher in their Messiah.  This area represents nearly 40% of global oil exports that would then be in consolidated, Islamic fundamentalist, hands.
In the case of the coalition pullout inspiring a bloody conflict of Arab against Arab, wouldn't oil infrastructure and revenue for war funding be the first targets?
Revelation 13:2 And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as [the feet] of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority.
Within weeks of U.S. elections we saw Chavez meet with the President of Iran.  Is there any question that Chavez would help in any anti-American effort?  Would Lybia's Kadafi hesitate to pile on, even if he had a choice?  Would UAE go against their powerful neighbors?  These three represent another 15% of global oil exports.
The U.S. is dependent on imports for over 60% of our petroleum supply.  As a result we are dependent on a whopping 1/3 of total global exports.  With the 55% of total world exports detailed in just the countries listed above, cut off by terrorists, where would we stand?
What if the consolidated Middle East producers then offered to sell oil to the U.S. - but only in exchange for gold - of which the U.S. today has but a pittance left.  Then maybe they warn that any country that acts as a conduit and sells oil to the U.S., will be shut off, and any neighbor that sells the U.S. oil will be attacked.
Revelation 13:4 And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who [is] like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him?
The reader of this page can paint their own scenario.  What will your life be like without gasoline, diesel and propane?  What will your neighborhood look like?
Electricity may fare better, but only about 20% of today's electricity is nuclear, with 17% from natural gas, and about 50% from coal.  How much diesel is required to operate coal fired generating plants and to mine and truck coal?  This might, however, be an abundance of electricity, since few individuals and businesses would have the cash to pay for it.
Our strategic oil reserve is 685 million barrels.  Our daily consumption is 20.8 million barrels/day.  That's a 32 day supply.
The point is, would we likely be off to the mall shopping?  With nobody spending would your boss need you to come in to work - even if you had the gas to commute?  What will your retirement fund look like?  As the market collapses, you are prevented from redeeming money from your mutual funds for 30 days because they are closed to redemptions, as per that pesky perspectus that you didn't read.  What would happen to the value of your home with so many in foreclosure?
With trucking at a standstill how would food move to your store - even if banks were open to get money out to spend on food?  How about trash pickup in cities?
What would happen to money?
Time allowing, the Arabs and Chavez and the Chinese and whoever else, could then buy real estate in the U.S. on the courthouse steps for two cents on the dollar.
The above just for openers ......... your own imagination can connect the dots.
Blessedly the misery won't likely last that long, as our Lord and Savior is due to return on the scene any day.  Perhaps today.  Bible prophecy can be proven with mathematical precision in prophecy, but today's Church can't see it through the fog of unsound doctrine.
Amos 5:18-19  Woe unto you that desire the day of the LORD! to what end is it for you? the day of the LORD is darkness, and not light. As if a man did flee from a lion, and a bear met him; or went into the house, and leaned his hand on the wall, and a serpent bit him.
"We have the assurance of the New Testament regarding events to come.  I find it difficult to keep from laughing when I find people worrying about future destruction of some kind or another.  Didn't they know they were going to die anyway?  Apparently not....The world might stop in ten minutes; meanwhile we are to go on doing our duty.  The great thing is to be found at one's post as a child of God living each day as though it were our last, but planning as though our world might last a hundred years." - C.S. Lewis
I suspect that if Jesus, or perhaps even Mel Gibson, was the producer of a "time of the end" movie, the content might go more like the following.  Antichrist in this movie might be a spirit that resides in the dark hearts of billions of men that not only reject Jesus Christ, but even mark themselves with the number 666.  It might go like this:

In the opening scene we find some of the people that were "left behind" in Saudi Arabia, as Christians that converted from Islam.  Suddenly, hack, hack, hack with a knife and a guy is beheaded while his shout "to die is gain" is reduced to a gurgle as his head is tossed onto a pile with those of the rest of his congregation.  Next we visit the Sudan and see millions, face after face, eye to eye, as pastors are crucified on crosses, or if the every day saint is lucky, only have their hands or feet hacked off.  Then on to Indonesia where 3 teenage girls are beheaded on their way to their Christian school and their heads left on the steps of a Church.  The note left behind reads:  "We will murder 100 more Christian teenagers and their heads will be presented as presents."  Then on to the Palistinian territory were a Christian evangelist is butchered and cut into 4 parts and sent back home to his family in a box.  Picture fades out and fades back in again as we find ourselves on the Sudan/Angola border where: "Once again, women are the targets. In mid-March, rebels assaulted three women gathering firewood and cut off their ears, lips, and breasts."

The "crime" committed by the above martyrs could have been as simple as admitting to a being Christian when asked.  You can study this subject with a Yahoo search.  You won't likely see Christian persecution reported on ABC, CBS, NBC or CNN.  Visit Voice of the Martyrs to learn more and to find out how you can help.

The real true life scenario above runs in run in stark contrast to one of the most highly touted Christian "outreach" "achievements", as measured by some by the tremendous commercial success, of the fictional "Left Behind" series of movies.  I bought a movie in this vein - "Revelation" - in which the Antichrist was a man that sent other men house to house, to put goofy goggles on people.  Through the goggles they could see "The" "Antichrist", virtually, and then be mesmerized in a couple of moments, followed by these goggles apparently having the ability to uncripple them, as well as burn a mark on their hand, right through the air!  Millions, perhaps even tens of millions of people not only saw the movies of this "pre-trib" "rapture" concept, but sadly, also showed it to their children. Do you suppose those that survived the 2 million slain in the Sudan expect the same escape from tribulation as western Christians? How about Stephen or the rest of the Apostles?

2 Timothy 3:12  Yea, and all that will  live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.

2 Timothy 4:3  For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;  4:4 And they shall turn away [their] ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
